The Laird's Lounge

Welcome friends and fellow Clansmen to the Laird's Lounge. Here I will from time to time impart my wisdom unto the Knowne World both Mundane and Scadian. Sometimes serious, sometimes nonsense, and some pet peaves. No matter the suject, I will keep it clean so check back from time to time to see what's making the Laird tick.

We're all home safe from Pennsic, and still worn out from the long road home. Started out on the 6th, and all was well until War Week began and it seemed to go down hill fast. Funny how the rainiest days were my best days at Pennsic.

Wednesday through Sunday were great! Spent time with my son's who came out early with me, and got around to see things as they setup. Monday, I registered a name and device at Herald's Point, finding out I can drop the Martáinm and just keep Marcus as my Gaelic name. It was apparently held over after the Roman conquest. The Feast of MacFarlane's Lantern on Full Moon Tuesday went off, but not as planned. A few additions to the Clan were made official and favors given. Wednesday, I was wiped and stayed in camp when a Chriurgeon wandered in an noticed the bug bite I was nursing from before War was a Brown Recluse spider bite that needed medical attention. Also found out that my basement was flooded, and thought we wre going to have to cut War short. Kaylyn gets ahold of Sister-in-Law who agrees to take care of the mess if we bring her back sharp pointy gift. Thursday, spent the afternoon in Butler Memorial just to have them say "Yep! Its a brown recluse bite. Here's your Anti-Biotic script." Go to Eckards to fill said prescription, and was out $105 of my War budget because they couldn't take my insurance. East Coast is blacked out, work calls on Friday when the power is restored and I talk them through a few things. Start Anti-biotics and head begins to clear up by end of the day like I had been walking a fog. I thought it was the heat, but maybe the toxins from the bite were alos taking a toll. Friday ended with a spectacular, period Fireworks display on the Battlefield that all agreed should become a tradition. Saturday was packup and bugout day. Managed to get out before the rains late in the day. Took us ten hours to get home driving through the rain in a Caravan of four, and winding up on a 15 mile bathroom detour.

As relaxing as War was, I had a rather crappy War where Lord Murphy reigned supreme. There were rumblings in our host encampment, politics that couldn't be avoided, and bad blood with persons in a neighboring encampment, and other personal BS. I made the decision that its time for the Clan MacFarlane to rise and stake a claim in the Cooper's landscape. Something simple, yet classy, inviting and kid friendly - Not the decadence that does not resemble a War Camp. Need less technology, and not more ways to hide it.

Now I'm home again for a 50 week town and ATM run. Until next year.

Well, its been a couple months my Clan and I have a couple of announcements.

I'm posting to announce my niece an addition to the Clan, and her name is Étaín (AY-teen). She has faired well at some day trip events, and weathered a rather cold and wet War of the Roses. Some adjustment needs to be made still, but she is still enthusiastic about the SCA. She is prepping for what she hopes will be her first Pennsic, but still needs to save for some spending money and make grab between now and then.

There is also the matter of the loss of one of our own in spirit, my Wife's Grandmother - Agnus "Nessie" Woods - passed beyond last week. I posted the announcement to the list, but wanted it recorded here. She was not a Scadian, but supported our organizing of the Clan. She was a stout and vibrant old lass of Clan descent from Scotland, and was an inspiration into our development. She deserves the rights and respect of the Clan, and will be known as the Clan Matriarch. I will be looking to organize a brief euligy followed by a feast in her name at Pennsic where we can properly pipe her away. I am looking to hold this by the light of MacFarlane's Lantern the Tuesday of War Week. If any of you know a good piper that will be at War, please send me their contact information. As much as I like Wolgemut, I doubt I could convince them to play a somber note of track 18 on their second album. Thus I would like a more traditional piper.

Loch Sloy Grandma Ness. Loch Sloy!!!

Had to have something here to launch the site. Bad Laird, its been almost two years since I've updated this site, and now I've managed to finish it in a week. Well, not finished, but presentable and ready to growth. However, there is something to say for you, my Clan, when I ask information and ideas for the web site and get none. I know many of us stay in touch by e-mail, phone and events, but that list has had people on it not from these parts in the East. They are looking to stay in touch on that list, and cannot impress on you enough to utilize it.

The site is more than just the Laird's, its the Clan's, and there is a wealth of information we have to share with our fellow Scadians. So review the sections I have established, and give me your input. I am not Vulcan and cannot mind-meld to dredge that information out of you. I have 20MB of space and use less that 1 for these pages, so there is plenty of room for graphics and other information - Tentage, Garb, Beds, Recepts, Gates, History, Kids & Adult Crafts, etc. Give me your ideas, your submissions, your feedback. Information posted to the site will be credited accordingly. If this Clan is to survive, you need to take a better part in it.

So there, you have had your first taste of my seriousness, nonsense, and pet peaves.
